NAWD Professional Trish Beres
Trish Beres is a Bronze Select North American Western Dressage Professional Located in a remote part of Northern Arizona. Much of the horsemanship skills taught in this area are based on traditional ranching, roping, or barrel racing skills that do not promote the proper use of the horse’s biomechanics. She is looking forward to introducing and educating students to the principles of dressage that will produce refinement in their riding skills. Additionally, she appreciates the concept of virtual showing that affords some students who may never have the opportunity to compete the opportunity to get feedback from professional judges.
Trish has 21 years of experience as a full time professional horse trainer and riding instructor. Based on her experience, Trish shares with us her philosophy “I have no preconceived “cookie cutter” approach to working with any horse or student. I first get to know the animal/person before I consider a plan for training. Gentle but firm and understanding of how the student responds to stimulus.”
Her background in the equine industry is unique as she has accomplished galloping Thoroughbred’s in Minnesota and held working student positions at a Riding school in Finland, a 3-Day Eventing barn in England, and an A- level Hunter-Jumper barn in Virginia. She also held the position of barn manager of a Foxhunting stable in Illinois and studied Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy in Australia.
As Trish says, “the insight I have gained by evaluating programs and different approaches to horsemanship on an international basis has been invaluable. I experienced many different techniques for training horses, and perhaps even more importantly I learned the common denominator that draws most people to interaction with horses. Using my experience and understanding of motivating factors as the key component, I develop training plans that tailor to the individual horse and/or student.”
Some of Trish’s accomplishments include being a John Lyons Certified Trainer, an ARIA certified riding instructor for Level II Dressage and Recreational Riding. She has been published in magazine articles on multiple occasions, featured in the books “Alex the West Nile Horse” by Author -Katie Klosterman and in James Shaw’s book “Ride from Within.” Currently she is in the process of writing her first book on Horsemanship scheduled for completion in January 2016.
Western Dressage Thoughts and Goals:
Trish has always had an interest in Dressage and how to use simple movements to increase any horse’s potential. When she was in the John Lyons Certification Program, she noticed the parallels between Natural Horsemanship and Dressage. After focusing for a few years on the Natural side, she found herself returning to my Dressage roots with a deeper understanding of the concepts of both disciplines. Trish sees Western Dressage as the opportunity to blend the two into a fun and educational opportunity.
She likes to work with Beginners and Intermediates with an emphasis on riders that are fearful or have horses that are nervous and unfocused.
Trish is starting her Western Dressage journey as a rider and coach and trainer and is focused on the same level of success that she achieved in Traditional Dressage with multiple scores over 65% in First Level Dressage.
